Food for allergy sufferers

Olive Oil

Olive oil contains hydroxytyrosol which is known as the most effective antioxidant in nature. Olive oil extracts are known to act as antihistamines and have the ability to block histamine receptors. In this way they play a role in helping those with allergies because of their anti-inflammatory properties. New studies have shown that the hydroxytryrosol in olive oil extracts can play a major role in helping to combat allergic reactions. You can enjoy baking a delicious olive oil cake.

Pineapple

Pineapple has an enzyme known as bromelain. This enzyme has the ability to reduce irritation in allergic diseases like asthma. To seek relief from your allergies particularly in spring think of getting help from some juicy pineapple. You can reap the benefits of this delicious fruit in a banana split cake. Pineapple is one of the foods that can help you with your allergies and it is full of Vitamin C. The bromelain enzyme in pineapple helps to fight inflammation and help to reduce the swelling and irritations that come with pollen in the air and other allergens in season. This enzyme will also help in reducing asthmatic symptoms like coughing and chest tightness because it helps to prevent the irritation and inflammation throughout the entire respiratory tract. So add pineapple to your salads and salsas and desserts.

Coconut Milk

Coconut milk is a great alternative for cow’s milk since it is free of dairy, lactose, soy, nuts, and grains. Coconut oil can help to calm your gastrointestinal tract and help with allergies because it is high in medium-chain triglycerides. You can make cassava cake with coconut milk.

Kiwi

Kiwi is a fuzzy fruit that is very rich in Vitamin C and it also helps to cut down on histamines. Helping to cut down on histamines means your allergies won’t keep you sniffling for too long.

Onions

Onions are really strong antihistamine agents and can relieve allergic congestion and asthma. This vegetable can cure flu-like symptoms like a cough, congestion, respiratory infections, and bronchitis.

Cayenne Peppers

Cayenne peppers contain a chemical known as capsaicin which can help to break-up congestion, desensitize mucous membranes and make them less sensitive to irritants and thereby reduce inflammation.

Strawberries

Strawberries are a great supplier of Vitamin C. The quercetin in berries can help to reduce the symptoms that come with allergic reactions like a runny nose, watery eyes, hives, and swelling.

Parsley

Parsley is a great source of Vitamins A and C and of  lutein and zeaxanthin which are known as the macular carotenoids playing a key role in protecting eye health. They’ve been known to protect the eyes against the glare of a computer screen. Parsley also contains a special flavonoid known as apigenin which is anti-inflammatory. It also has anti-allergic capability.
