QLD Day

  • Written by: Times Media

Parkrun

On Saturday 6 June, parkrun events across the state will be a sea of maroon, with communities  striding together and showcasing their Queensland pride for QLD Day.

Whether you’re a seasoned runner, a casual walker, a dedicated volunteer, or a supportive  spectator, everyone is encouraged to start their QLD Day on the right foot, get into their  maroon gear, and celebrate our state.

Queenslanders are invited to embrace their state pride by participating in a free community  5km event near them.

Last weekend, Redcliffe locals were invited to a QLD Day warm-up parkrun and Redcliffe  parkrun co-event coordinator, Belinda said that parkrun brings a great community vibe.

“If you’ve never tried parkrun or want something good to do with your fellow Queenslanders,  join us on 6 June at 7am,” Belinda said.

Managing Director of parkrun Australia, Renee Gimbert said the event is open to everyone.

"We are proud that Queensland was the birthplace of parkrun in Australia, and there's no better  way to kick off Queensland Day than with a parkrun.

“Our events are open to people of all ages and abilities and you can walk, run or volunteer, so  bring your family or your dog and join in the fun." Renee said.

Don’t forget to wear maroon and bring your friends and family along to celebrate QLD Day in  true Queensland style.

Post your photos or videos from parkrun, show off your maroon outfits, and tell us what QLD  Day means to you.

Find your nearest parkrun location at: parkrun Australia.

Held annually on 6 June, QLD Day marks the date in 1859 when Queensland officially separated from New South Wales to become an independent state.

Every weekend, 25,000 Queenslanders participate in parkrun events across the state, supported by 1,700 dedicated volunteers - the parkrun community in Queensland could fill the Gabba 11 times.

Queensland is the state with the most parkrun events and participants in Australia, with nearly 140 parkrun locations to choose from.
