Veteran Benefits Australia to open new hub for veteran patient care

  • Written by The Times

Veteran Benefits Australia (VBA) opens their $4.5m facility to house all their nurses, admin team and social workers to help improve and centralise veteran patient care.

Grown from a one man show to over 40 staff, helped over 30,000 veterans nationally and helped raise and donate a sum equating to over $2.6 million to veteran charity partners – the new facility is a landmark opening that will take place on Monday 12th December, including a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Earlier this year VBA announced their custom medical van, worth over $200,000, to better support veterans The service will travel to veterans in the Brisbane area who may not be able to leave their accommodation, be it from physical or mental barriers, and provide tailored health checks and services. In a nod to the veteran community, the van will sport important images in history in appreciation for their acts of service for the country.

The new VBA facility marks the start of a journey whereby the organisation hopes to open five veteran super clinics in the Southeast Queensland area and build 10 more veteran medical vans and service veterans in rural and remote areas to expand their reach.

Veteran Benefits Australia Founder, Thomas Bailey, says, “Our goal is to have 5000 on our chronic disease management program which will further assist and reduce the hospitalisations of veterans and improve health outcomes long term. Currently we have 400 veterans on the program, and we launched four months ago."

Whilst Bailey is working to create change in the community, the same mission exists inside the company.

“We want to make at least a quarter of our team hires veterans, so we are not only creating better care plans for veterans, but we are also hiring them and employing them to help more veterans. We are working to build the biggest veteran’s network in Australia that combines social and health outcomes across the country.

In the next three years we aim to donate $10 million to our veteran charity partners - to date we have donated and raised just over $2.6m and helped over 30,000 veterans with services,” says Mr Bailey.
