GET THE LOOK: INDULGE IN THE SAME INTERIOR AS YOUR FAVE CELEBS

There is a reason that Denmark ranks the highest on the happiness scale worldwide, one word: Hygge. Hygge. Hygge is a Nordic word that loosely translates to a “cosy way of life” which is a philosophy that embodies a sense of warmth and cosiness often associated with home and design.

Recent Scandinavian interior design trends have been characterised by a growing popularity for minimalist aesthetics, sustainable materials, natural tones, and a focus on functionality.

“Good Scandinavian design uses texture and materials to create layers and variation, rather than colour, in order to generate depth and interest.” says IconByDesign interior stylist, Ryan McCarthy.

Even the glittering world of celebrities find comfort in the hygge atmosphere that this simplistic style achieves. Here are a few celebrity spaces that have embodied the Scandinavian way of living and a few pieces you can invest in to emulate the same look and feel:

CLAUDIA SCHIFFER

Claudia Schiffer’s minimalist and contemporary home is a prime example of the Scandinavian style. The German model’s countryside home is a mix of understated Scandinavian design and unique antique decor. Her space features organic furnishings, a mix of sharp and soft lines, and neutral colours with a few pops of colour throughout.

Her use of organic materials and textures is very Scandi, yet the use of textures and colour tie in more closely with mid-century modern style. Her warm and modern furniture includes several wooden pieces, mixed in with plush curvy chairs for the ultimate contrast. These inclusions emphasise the modest simplicity of this interior style and create a warm and inviting atmosphere.

“Our NEW Hink Velvet Armchair is the perfect statement piece, which provides an element of interest with its bold colour and curves, while also being a comforttable and functional piece for a cosy home feel.” Ryan shares.

EVA LONGORIA

Eva Longoria has embraced a Scandinavian style in her dining room which achieves a timeless, natural and stripped back interior. The Desperate Housewives actress’ space includes a solid timber table and a matching set of chairs in a light oak finish, matching her wood-panelled glass doors and the framed painting on the wall behind. Her flooring being a concrete finish, gives the space a more industrial look, which is immediately warmed and softened with solid timber furniture, with soft curves.

Natural timber furniture, like Eva's table and chairs, enhance the peaceful ambiance within a home, especially where the flooring might be harsh. The dining set works well to further soften the space and contribute to the ‘hygge’ feeling. Eva's decor including a simple light fixture, and stunning artwork on the wall tied together with a plant and fruit bowl on the table creates a harmonious and sleek space, without making too much of a statement.

To get the look, Ryan suggests The Otto rectangular Dining table, sharing “this piece incorporates the perfect amount of soft curves and simultaneously clean lines that are quintessential for elevated Scandinavian interiors.”

RRP: $1,919. To purchase visit: https://www.iconbydesign.com.au/products/otto-rectangular-dining-table-solid-oak?variant=40219561263179

SCARLETT JOHANSSON

Scarlett Johansson drew from Nordic design influences to pay homage to her Danish heritage when designing the office of her beauty brand, Outset. Johansson curated a scandi-inspired office space that feels warm and comforting but also very modern. White is incorporated with natural and soothing materials to evoke a clean feeling that aligns with and echoes her companies branding.

Clean shapes and minimalist hues as well as earthy tones and natural texture are used to create a sense of comfort and cosiness. The common area of the office features a modern dark oak shelf, adorned with just a few books and plants.

Ryan suggests adding natural tones and organic materials for Scandinavian interiors. “Consider the Olivia Modular Shelf which serves as a great neutral piece to add your own style to a space. You can dress this up or down, based on your preference.” he says.

RRP: $879. To purchase visit: https://www.iconbydesign.com.au/products/olivia-modular-shelf-double-width-solid-oak?variant=40219576500299
