Clean, connected data powers real-time insights, smarter staffing, and standout customer experiences

Sydney, Australia, 14 July 2025 – Qlik®, a global leader in data integration, data quality, analytics, and artificial intelligence, today announced that Grill’d, Australia’s favourite homegrown burger chain, is leveraging Qlik to streamline operations, boost business efficiency and enhance the customer experience across its more than 170 restaurants.

With a workforce of over 4,000 staff and an expanding footprint, Grill’d had long outgrown its aging legacy system and needed a solution that could keep pace with its operational complexity without compromising quality for its customers.

Shubhankar Thatte, Data Engineering and Business Intelligence Manager and Tech Lead for Grill’d, highlighted the importance of operational efficiency in delivering high-quality service.

“Our success depends on providing an exceptional customer experience while optimising productivity,” Thatte said. “For a company handling 100 to 200 million records weekly, we needed a system that could process high data volumes and simplify complex scenarios.”

Qlik Talend was the perfect fit, bringing flexibility, scalability and user-friendly integration that empowers teams to make smarter decisions, faster.

One of the immediate benefits has been in workforce management.  Managers can now accurately allocate staffing needs based on burger demand forecasts at each outlet, ensuring top-quality service during peak lunch and dinner hours. Staff scheduling is now driven by swift automated data extraction and refreshes, plus rendering every 30 minutes, replacing the older inefficient manual spreadsheet system.

“You need to have the right people at the chips station, the dressing station, and the bun station,” Thatte explained. “With near real-time updates, we can dynamically adjust rosters to ensure peak efficiency during our busiest hours.”

Creating end-to-end data pipelines and monitoring them through a single platform has provided Grill’s with clean, accurate data and eliminated any guesswork. The new system has given teams better visibility across supply chain logistics, financial systems and even image-based data – capabilities the previous systems couldn’t support. Grill’d has expanded from managing five data sets to more than twenty five.

Importantly, the low-code interface made it easier for staff to adopt, supporting smoother integration across departments.

Data from external sources—including delivery platforms like Uber and DoorDash and customer feedback from mystery shopper reports—is also consolidated through the platform. This unified view is stored in Snowflake, enabling managers to benchmark performance and quickly respond to trends or issues.

“With real-time access to data, we can identify operational issues early, allocate resources more effectively, and deliver a better experience for our customers,” Thatte said.

Qlik’s Maurizio Garavello, Senior Vice President APAC, said Grill’d’s experience shows how connected data can help businesses scale more efficiently.

“By consolidating and orchestrating their data, Grill’d has been able to improve decision-making and streamline operations. This kind of transformation lays a strong foundation for long-term growth,” Garavello said.
