Best beaches of Samui

  • Written by The Times

In the Gulf of Siam, there is a large island that attracts tourists with its beaches. It is called Samui. In addition to its beautiful and endless beaches, Samui is known in the world for its coconut plantations. On the island, every traveller will find their own paradise. Samui's beaches entice with clear water, soft sandy slopes, and a dense curtain of palm trees. Here, you can witness breathtaking sunrises and sunsets, try local cuisine, and even get a
massage right on the sand. We have put together a selection of Samui's beaches to make it easier for you to find a place for your vacation. Opening the selection is Silver Beach on the east side of the island. It is one of the most beautiful and picturesque places you will ever see in your life. Its length is approximately 300 metres. The beach is surrounded by rocks, making it a perfect spot for a photoshoot. Beneath the water, there is a beautiful coral reef, so swimming should be done cautiously to avoid getting injured. However, it is a great place for those who love diving and observing the underwater world. Palm trees grow along Samui's shore, providing shelter from the scorching sun. The road to the beach passes through the Silver Resort hotel, and the entrance is free.

On the north side of Samui, there is Maenam Beach, also known as Menam by the locals. It stretches for five kilometres in length but is only 6-7 metres wide. The beach is located 25 kilometres away from Samui International Airport, so you can easily reach it by car. Right at the airport, you have the opportunity to connect to Wi-Fi and use the online service of car rental in Koh Samui. The beach is perfect for family vacations: it is peaceful, clean, with easy access to the sea, and the seabed is smooth and free of rocks. The coastline is dotted with palm trees, providing plenty of shade and creating a picturesque view. Maenam rarely sees many tourists, but there are quite a few people who come here to spend the winter. This place has well-developed infrastructure, with many hotels and accommodations offering a wide range of options for overnight stays.

A small yet incredibly beautiful bay and Chong Mon Beach stretches for only 1 kilometre. However, that doesn't stop it from attracting tourists from all over the world. Chong Mon is located on the northeast side of the island. Swimming here is safe, as the water is shallow, with almost no sharp stones, seaweed, or high waves. The beach gets crowded with travellers only during the season — New Year's and Christmas holidays. The rest of the
time, it is peaceful and quiet. Right on the beach, in the beach zone, there are many cafes where you can enjoy refreshing drinks and grab a bite to eat. Chong Mon boasts smooth white sand, which children love to play on. For those who prefer a more active vacation, the beach offers jet skis and kayaks for rent, as well as a volleyball court.

Chaweng Beach is located on the eastern part of Samui Island. The sea here is calm, the water is clean with an emerald hue. The beach stretches for about 6 km and is visually divided into three parts: Chaweng Noi, Central Chaweng, and Chaweng Yai. Chaweng Noi, with a length of 1 km, is lined with hotels and restaurants. The wide coastline with fine white sand is very pleasant to the touch. Adjacent to the beach is an observation deck from which you can see almost the entire northeastern part of Samui. Central Chaweng extends for 4 km in length and 30-40 m in width. It is a picturesque coastline with overhanging palm trees where you can seek shelter from the sun. Here, activity thrives round the clock. As night falls, tourists move from the beach to the bars, where they continue their leisure time. Chaweng Yai Beach has larger yellow sand and encounters large rocks in the water. Despite having more vegetation and numerous fishing boats, there is an advantage - there are fewer tourists. Therefore, if you wish to find seclusion and relax on the beach, Chaweng Yai is the best choice.

Another secluded and romantic beach is Coral Cove. It is situated in a bay and is only 130 metres long. The Coral Cove coastline is covered with coarse yellow sand, and the water displays a beautiful blue colour. Due to the lack of shade, the beach can get very hot as the sand overheats. However, during overcast weather, it is quite comfortable. When it's windy, the sea becomes slightly stormy, allowing for some brief wave jumping. Those sunbathing on this beach will feel the pleasant sea breeze and coolness. There are only three hotels at Coral Cove: Coral Beach Villas, Coral Cove Resort, and Coral Cove Chalet. This beach is a splendid place for romance enthusiasts.

Heading to the northwest of Samui, you will come across Bang Po Beach, stretching for 6 km in length. The sand on Bang Po is fine and light-coloured. The sea is shallow, but entering the water is not always pleasant as the bottom is scattered with rocks and sometimes covered in mud. Therefore, it is necessary to swim wearing appropriate footwear. This beach is quite far from shops and standard tourist attractions. The advantage of the beach is its tranquillity and the option to find affordable accommodation. It is an excellent place for a family vacation. The abundance of palm trees and trees provides good shade, allowing you to relax without beach umbrellas. It should be noted that it is best to visit Bang Po during the winter when there is plenty of turquoise water. In other seasons, there are frequent low tides, and one must search for a suitable bathing spot.

On the island of Samui, there is a controversial Lipa Noi Beach. And all because on one hand, it is beautiful and comfortable, but on the other hand, people who come during the low season think it is a wild and unsuitable place for leisure. Yes, in the off-season, you can see a lot of trash on the coast that no one collects. There are also closed hotels. But overall, the shore has fine greyish sand with numerous seashells, and the seabed is flat and sandy. During the day, you can sunbathe or seek refuge in the shade of local trees, and in the evening, you can see the local residents with their children. Recently, a cool trendy club opened at Lipa Noi, which will be very appealing to partygoers. Since the beach is located on the west side of the island, you can enjoy the sunset here.

About 10 km from Chaweng Beach, on the southeast of the island, you'll find Lamai BeachIt stretches for about 4 kilometres. The beach constantly competes for the title of the best beach on Samui. Here, there is white sand, delicious food in restaurants, and a lively nightlife. Lamai is quieter than Chaweng, and you can stay overnight in a hotel, bungalow, or even a villa. Along the beach, there are massage salons where every tourist can experience traditional Thai massage. The sand is not as white as on neighbouring beaches, and lush jungles surround Lamai.

To enjoy Samui's beaches, we recommend carefully reading about each of them before your trip. Study the peculiarities of each place. Remember that all Samui beaches differ in terms of infrastructure development, but they are all clean, well-maintained, and beautiful. This compilation was written to ensure you don't have to think about where to go, but rather, feel compelled to visit all of Samui's beaches.

How to find the time to visit all the beaches of Samui

Если вы планируете отдых на этом острове, то вам не следует пропустить возможность посетить все его знаменитые пляжи. Рассказываем, как успеть увидеть красивые пляжи на Самуи.

1. Plan your visit.

2. Rent a car.
On the island, there is public transport, but the most convenient way to get around is by renting a car. This service will allow you to follow your own beach visit schedule rather than adjusting to the public transport timetable. Cars in Koh Samui can be rented on the website of LocalCarRent or by visiting the car rental park. Booking online is more convenient as there is no need to go to an office to view the vehicles and complete the paperwork. Simply use your phone to select a car that fits your budget and preferences. Enjoy your trip to the beaches of Samui in comfort.

3. Plan your time.
Properly planned time provides advantages and allows you to see all the intended places. Roads on the island can be narrow and winding, so be prepared for longer travel times from one beach to another. Also, find out in advance about the accessibility of the island and peak tourist seasons. This will allow you to enjoy your vacation more fully.

4. Do not forget about food and water.
When heading to the beach, remember that the sun shows no mercy. Consider the hydration of your body and make sure to bring water for each family member. Also, pack snacks that won't spoil under the sun. Some beaches in Samui are far from infrastructure, so there may not be cafes or restaurants available. To safeguard your health and maintain a positive mood throughout the day, bring a supply of food and water. The same applies to sun protection: SPF cream and a hat.

5. Enjoy the moment.
No matter how many beaches you visit, always remember that it's not about the quantity but the quality. After all, the main goal of a vacation is to relax and take a break from everyday chores. Don't rush, enjoy the moment on each beach. Take photos, try local activities, stay to watch the sunset, and feel the spirit of this amazing island.

To manage to see all the beaches in Samui, it will be easier if you follow our advice. Create a visit plan, rent a car, manage your time wisely, don't forget to bring snacks and water, and don't limit yourself to just popular beaches. The most important thing to remember during your trip is to enjoy the moment and not hurry because Samui Island will amaze you with its beautiful and comfortable beaches.
