Environment Week at Daydream Island in the Whitsundays (2nd-9th June)

  • Written by: Times Media

This year, Daydream Island is marking World Environment Day (5th June) and World Ocean Day (8th June) with Environment Week - a week-long programme of guest experiences, conservation initiatives and educational activities celebrating the Great Barrier Reef and the Whitsundays’ marine ecosystem from  2nd–9th June.

-  Island-wide beach clean-ups
-  Daily educational talks, with a special guest presentation one day from Project Manta on manta rays in the Whitsundays (Date TBC)
-  A Sustainability workshop with SeaChange using debris collected from the beach clean-up
-  Interactive reef experiences

Alongside guest-facing activities, the resort’s Living Reef team will conduct behind-the-scenes conservation work including marine debris clean-up dives, coral restoration activity and the installation of 30 new coral restoration frames (staff-only).

As the only island resort in the Whitsundays with ECO Certification from Eco Tourism Australia, Daydream Island is taking a hands-on approach to reef conservation through its Living Reef program and offshore restoration work at Lovers Cove, where coral is actively propagated, restored and replanted back onto the reef.
