Club Med Expands Exclusive Collection Portfolio with a New Beachfront Resort in Koh Samui, Thailand in Partnership with Central Group Capital

Club Med
, the global leader in premium all-inclusive holidays for 75 years, and Central Group Capital announce the signing of a Hotel Management Agreement (HMA) for a resort located in the highly sought-after destination of Koh Samui, Thailand.

This strategic partnership will see the reveal of a highly anticipated Club Med Exclusive Collection Resort, which marks the third in this product range in the East and South Asia, and Pacific (E
SAP) region, an unparalleled experience anchored in signature Club Med spirit, designed for discerning travellers. Club Med Exclusive Collection Koh Samui will mark the brand's first Exclusive Collection Resort in Thailand and second in the country, following Club Med Phuket which opened its doors 40 years back in 1985.

Located just a 25-minute drive from Koh Samui Airport, Club Med Exclusive Collection Koh Samui will offer a vibrant beachfront retreat celebrating the exquisite Thai island lifestyle. This new Resort joins Club Med's global network of over 60 Premium and Exclusive Collection Resorts across 25 countries. This marks a significant milestone following the opening of Club Med Phuket in 1985. Club Med Exclusive Collection portfolio now makes up 13% of its global capacity, which includes 21 exceptional properties, such as six Exclusive Collection resorts, nine Exclusive Collection spaces, five villas and chalets, and the iconic Club Med 2 sailing yacht.

The official unveiling of this new resort took place at Club Med Kiroro Peak, Japan. The ceremony was held in the presence of Stéphane Maquaire, President and CEO of Club Med, Rachael Harding, CEO, ESAP of Club Med, and Soravit Chairoj, Managing Partner and Co-Head of Central Group Capital.

“This exceptional property situated on an exclusive beach along the coast of Koh Samui marks an exciting expansion in our portfolio,” said Stéphane Maquaire. “With the acceleration we have been making, from the soon-to-be-opened Club Med Borneo in Malaysia and Club Med South Africa Beach & Safari to the signing of Club Med Manado in Indonesia and Club Med Tremblant in Canada, this new chapter will continue to strengthen Club Med's leadership in premium, all-inclusive experiential holidays in breathtaking destinations such as here in Koh Samui. Beyond the guest experience, we remain steadfast in our commitment to creating a lasting, positive impact for the regions we call home by empowering local workforces with varied career paths and sustainable destination development. This holistic approach ensures our presence contributes to the long-term environmental and economic vitality of our community partners and host destinations.”

Rachael Harding added, “The development of our first Exclusive Collection Resort in Thailand reinforces our commitment to providing upscale holiday experiences for today’s travellers, contributing to the global appeal of this remarkable destination. We are confident that with our international guest profiles, strong focus on premium family experience and unmatched all-included offering of sports, activities and entertainment, Club Med Koh Samui will undoubtedly be an extraordinary, vibrant beachside haven for all.”

Central Group Capital, the fund management arm of Central Group – one of Thailand’s leading business conglomerates – closed its inaugural fund in April 2023 with a fully-subscribed capital of 10 billion Thai Baht (approximately 300 million US dollars), the largest ever of its kind in Thailand. The Fund is led by an experienced investment team, with strong oversight from senior Central Group leadership, and aims to capitalize on the recovery of the tourism sector through selective hospitality investments. Through investments in high-potential projects, the Fund is confident that the growth of the tourism business in Thailand will be enhanced, while offering its investors exceptional opportunities for strong financial returns.

“We are a firm believer in the unique attraction of Thailand to tourists from around the world, and Samui is one of our top international destinations,” stated Soravit Chairoj. “We are fortunate to have the opportunity to acquire and re-develop this beautiful property. Our team has carefully designed this resort to take full advantage of its beautiful private beach and lush greenery. We look forward to working with the Club Med team to welcoming guests from all around the world and introducing them to the signature island charms of Koh Samui.”

The 303-room Club Med Exclusive Collection Koh Samui will offer a chic and contemporary island escape with a playful edge. Situated on the northern coast of Koh Samui, the resort boasts a private beach that spans over 200 meters, offering guests a variety of vibrant sports and lively beachfront activities.

The planned re-development will include an expansion of room capacity, stylish upgrades to existing guest rooms and public spaces, new dining concepts and introduction of signature Club Med programmes such as the Kids Club, offering tailored experiences according to age groups, and Amazing! Family, where families can connect through meaningful discoveries and activities. The Resort's design will draw inspiration from local Thai heritage and the island's natural beauty.

Club Med Exclusive Collection Koh Samui is anticipated to open its doors in the second half of 2028, with booking details to be released closer to opening.
