Why Aussie wine lovers should visit the Barossa Valley

  • Written by NewsCo

The Barossa Valley is Australia’s most revered wine region, a stunning landscape of rolling vineyards steeped in rich winemaking tradition. For lovers of world class Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, the Barossa Valley is the first region that comes to mind, with legendary produces like Yalumba, Seppelt and Peter Lehman all calling the hallowed farmland of the Barossa Valley home.

So, if you are looking to buy Shiraz online or are considering a journey to this most sacred producer of fine vino, here are a few reasons why you should head to the Barossa Valley at least once in your lifetime.

The cellar doors are second to none

The Barossa Valley is a winemaking region full of history and tradition, and the current producers want to uphold it by not only producing stellar wines but by creating amazing visitor experiences to go with them. Dotted around the Barossa Valley are memorable cellar door experiences that celebrate the best of each producer’s wine production pedigree, with fine drops and gourmet local produce going hand in hand to create an unforgettable experience.

Top cellar door experience in the Barossa Valley include Yalumba, where a blue-marbled building awaits you to try the label’s high end reds, Seppelt, where history is rich and so is the wine, or Peter Lehman, a famous name in the winemaking world and for very good reason.

Other notable mentions include Wolf Blass, Jacob’s Creek and Chateau Tanunda (it has its own cricket pitch!).

Head to Maggie Beer’s farm shop

Maggie Beer is the mother of Australian gourmet produce, and no visit to the Barossa Valley is complete without heading to her incredible farmshop. Here, you can pick up a huge range of goodies to add to your Barossa cornucopia, including all the jams, sauces and condiments her label is so famous for! Not only this, but you can also take part in an awesome range of activities including verjuice production demonstrations, cooking classes and gin distillery classes.

The compound is also home to The Farm Eatery, serving up delectable cuisine with top chef Tim Bourke working the grill during the week as well as the restaurant firing up the pizza oven over busy weekends. You can even stay at The Orchard House, a charming farmhouse offering two bedroom accommodation.

Pick up goodies at Barossa farmers markets

Naturally, the Barossa Valley has some very good markets, and not just for lovers of all things red and fruity. The markets in the Barossa Valley are replete with world class produce, from organic meat to freshly baked bread, flowers, fresh milk, smallgoods and other food you can think of that is high quality and very, very delicious.

Be sure to head to both the Barossa Valley Farmers Market and the Mount Pleasant Farmers Market - both locations are renowned for serving up different delights to one another, and when combined create the perfect goodie bag to enjoy when still in the Barossa or back at home!

Have an amazing trip

The Barossa Valley is truly unlike anywhere else in Australia. Its high end wines, gorgeous produce and amazing scenery make it the perfect holiday for connoisseurs and tourists alike. Whether you like wine, love food or just want to get away to somewhere beautiful and serene for a few days - the Barossa Valley is the perfect trip for you.
