Paralympic swimmer, Poppy Wilson, named Global Ambassador for Variety International

  • Written by: Times Media

Sunshine Coast, Queensland: Variety - the Children’s Charity International is proud to announce Paralympic swimmer Poppy Wilson as its newest Global Ambassador, strengthening the charity’s commitment to empowering children with disabilities.

Wilson, who lives with cerebral palsy, represented Australia at the Paris 2024 Paralympics after years of dedication and hard work. Her journey has been shaped by resilience and the support of her family and community, including Variety Queensland, which helped provide financial assistance for competition travel, accommodation, swim fees, and equipment.

Poppy first connected with Variety after another parent recommended the charity to her family at a swim meet. Through Variety’s support, she was able to continue pursuing elite swimming opportunities and represent Australia internationally on three occasions.
As a Global Ambassador, Wilson will work closely with Variety International to advocate for greater accessibility and inclusive opportunities for children with disabilities around the world.

Poppy Wilson said: “Variety holds such a special place in my heart. Their support really took a load off my mum’s shoulders financially and helped me achieve my lifelong dream of competing at the Paralympics.”

Living with cerebral palsy, Wilson hopes to use her platform to raise awareness and encourage greater accessibility in everyday life.
“I’d love to see a world where accessibility is considered from the very beginning, whether that’s ramps, sports opportunities, or inclusive spaces,” she said.

Through this partnership, Wilson will help amplify Variety International’s mission to ensure every child can live without limits through access to mobility support, medical care, education, and inclusive experiences.

With one in ten children worldwide living with disabilities, Variety International continues to deliver critical support through programs that empower children and families to thrive. To find out more about Variety International, please visit: variety.org
