Melbourne's North, Bar Mexico has officially opened


Nestled in the heart of Melbourne's North, Bar Mexico has officially opened its doors and is set to become the ultimate post-work and weekend hotspot for both locals and visitors, promising authentic Mexican cuisine, hand-crafted drinks and lively entertainment.

Founded by hospitality and tourism stalwart John Forman, Bar Mexico has rejuvenated the historic High Street Northside Food Hall and is one of two new venues from the team that will be added to Melbourne’s renowned hospitality scene this year.

“We’re excited to have finally opened the doors to Bar Mexico, where guests can fully immerse themselves in the flavours and energy of Mexico. Tequila and Mexican Food are extremely popular staples around the globe, and we are keen to showcase our own piece of Mexico in the North of Melbourne,” said Forman.

Nevan Hayek and Sandrow Yalda, the sibling team behind Grazeland’s popular El Taco, have teamed up with Forman to run the kitchens at both venues. Offering a fresh take on Mexican street food, the menu includes a variety of tasty bar snacks, quesadillas, nachos and an extensive list of tacos, such as cochinita pibil, a delicious combination of pulled pork paired with grilled pineapple, slaw and roasted garlic aioli, and vegetariano, a delectable vegetarian option with black beans, cauliflower florets, guacamole and chilli sauce.

Guests are also encouraged to try Bar Mexico’s signature Taco Feast, where they can build a taco platter and add their favourite protein and fillings to ensure everyone at the table is satisfied.

With a drink for every occasion, the venue boasts a selection of over 50 Tequilas, Mezcal and Raicilla, and an array of mouthwatering cocktails. Guests can sip on multiple margarita options, from spicy to classic, or choose from a selection of contemporary highballs including Mexican Paradise a combination of Nodo coconut, Marionette pineapple, and yuzu, as well as the signature El Diablo.

The venue has been thoughtfully designed with influences from Hacienda style Mexican architecture and is characterised by inviting elements that blend warm, soft stucco walls, rustic wood accents, traditional archways and authentic Mexican finishes.

Bar Mexico is located at 39 High Street Preston and is set to become the north’s newest hotspot.

    Friday: 4pm – 12:30am
    Saturday: 12pm – 12:30am
    Sunday: 12pm – 9pm
