'Big school ready’ before 2025

  • Written by Rebecca Suseno

Rebecca Suseno, a mother from Croydon, NSW, shares her excitement and preparation for her daughter Chiara’s big leap into kindergarten in 2025.

As a mother, there’s nothing quite as exciting and nerve-wracking as sending your child to their first day of kindergarten.

Beyond the usual back to school tasks like attending kindergarten orientation, uniform shopping and finding the perfect lunchbox, I have been proactive in ensuring Chiara has the best academic start possible.

Chiara, my naturally curious 5-year-old, began her journey with ABC Reading Eggs in May 2023, and has made incredible progress with the program. She typically spends 40-45 minutes several times per week using ABC Reading Eggs, and it has been amazing to watch her grow! Since starting with the program, she has developed her reading skills and can now recognise common sight words in the books we read together.

Chiara can sound out words, even recognising familiar words on signs when we’re out and about on family outings. I love seeing her get excited to apply her learning from ABC Reading Eggs in real life situations!

For us parents, it's been so rewarding to see her have fun and learn at the same time. When she does well in her skills test, we make a point of celebrating her achievements. It’s such a joy to watch her confidence grow.

The one thing that I value the most about ABC Reading Eggs is how it has enriched Chiara’s learning while also providing me with peace of mind. Reducing screen time is big in our family and having Chiara use her screen time wisely is amazing. Of all the choices she has, she opts to play on ABC Reading Eggs when given the option. Knowing that Chiara is using her screen time in such a meaningful way is reassuring.

I also appreciate the flexibility it gives me as a parent. While Chiara is busy learning, I can attend to my 10-month-old daughter and catch up on other household tasks around the house.

As a parent, I want to give my children the best possible start in life, and I believe improving their reading and comprehension skills plays a big part in that. ABC Reading Eggs has been an incredible resource, with its carefully crafted online games and activities that are both self-paced and highly engaging. It is a wonderful way to ensure that my child is enjoying a positive, safe, and fun time behind the screens.

As Chiara takes a huge leap into “big school”, I feel confident in the solid foundation the program has built for her. ABC Reading Egg’s evidence-based approach gives me the assurance that Chiara is well prepared for the challenges ahead, ensuring her smooth transition into kindergarten.
