Salvida - Why getting kids to care for their skin can be harder than treating it

Salvida Skin Care

The hardest part of managing kids’ problem skin might not be the skincare itself, it’s getting them to actually do it.

For parents of children prone to dry, sensitive or problematic skin, the daily routine can sound something like this: “Have you moisturised? Did you put your cream on? Come back here…you’ve missed a spot!”

While parents often focus on finding the right products, another part of the equation can be just as important: helping kids take ownership of their own skincare.

That’s the thinking behind Australian skincare brand Salvida’s Vibe Tribe Chart, created specifically to help children build a skincare habit in a way that feels achievable and even a little fun.

The heavy-duty reward chart comes with 28 stickers, based on the idea that consistently repeating a behaviour can help turn it into a habit. Kids can add a sticker each day they complete their skincare routine, culminating in a special reward sticker at the end of the 28 days.

Parents can then choose a meaningful reward to celebrate the milestone, turning what can feel like another daily battle into something children can actively participate in.

Salvida’s approach is to make children part of the process rather than leaving skincare as something parents constantly manage.

The Vibe Tribe Chart can be purchased alongside hero products, which include:

Barrier NPR+

BodyGarde

300ml Everyday Everyway Pump Pack

150ml Everyday Wash

We asked the founder of Salvida Skincare Jacqui Vidal, for some insights.

What inspired you to create Salvida, and what makes it different from other skincare products for children?

I've lived with eczema for 25 years. When my daughter developed severe atopic dermatitis in Year 6, and nothing on the shelf helped, I started formulating my own barrier-support products at home. I wanted to create a brand that speaks to the exhaustion and emotional toll of trying to fix problem skin, not just the visible symptoms. That became Salvida. The simple three-product routine works for both kids and adults and has been trialled by 172 real households - after four weeks, 88% said their skin looked or felt noticeably better.

What are the key ingredients, and how do they help care for children's skin during summer?

Barrier NPR+ is built around non-nano zinc oxide and colloidal oatmeal in a water-free balm. I made it as a heavy hitter for red, itchy, irritated patches when skin is already reactive. In summer, that often means heat, sweat, chlorine, and salt, so I lean on a simple occlusive that locks in moisture and supports the barrier without fragrance.

What are the most common skin concerns parents should be aware of in the warmer months?

From what I see with my own kids and from customers, summer flares often track with heat, sweat, sunscreen layers, pool and ocean time and dry air from travel or air-con. Sensitive and eczema-prone skin can feel more unsettled when the routine keeps changing.

How can parents incorporate Salvida into their children's daily summer skincare routine?

Keep it simple. After bath or swim, pat dry and use Barrier NPR+ on the patches that need the most support. Bodyguard is the daily moisturiser for larger areas, and Every Day Everywhere is the wash when you want something gentle and fragrance-free. I always say topicals are one layer. When you're dealing with problem skin, it's essential to identify (and minimise!) triggers and work on inner health too.

What should parents look for when choosing skincare for children, particularly those with sensitive skin?

Fragrance-free, proven ingredients, and transparency around claims and how they substantiate them. I look for barrier support over miracle claims, and I avoid products that promise to heal or cure.
