Australian football fan Forest Robinson scores a Champions League Final surprise with Xavi Hernández

A sit-down with Xavi Hernandez
A solo competition trip to Budapest became a night in Heineken’s Skybox and pitchside celebrations after a hidden second seat was revealed inside the Puskás Aréna.

Australian football fan Forest Robinson arrived at Budapest’s Puskás Aréna expecting to watch the UEFA Champions League Final alone. Instead, a seat deliberately chosen for its isolation became the starting point for one of the night’s most unexpected experiences.

Forest had secured their place at the Final through a Heineken competition run in partnership with football creator The Padded Seat, a platform known for showcasing the best, worst and most unusual places to watch the game.

The competition sought a supporter prepared to travel solo to one of the biggest events in world football, with the promise of an experience shaped by the people they might meet along the way. What Forest did not know was that Heineken had identified one of the most isolated seats in the stadium specifically for the occasion.

Positioned high in the stands and separated from the surrounding rows, the single seat stood alone despite being surrounded by thousands of supporters. It was an unlikely setting for an event built around the atmosphere, emotion and collective experience of live football.

But the seat was not quite what it appeared to be.

Soon after Forest took their place, former Barcelona midfielder and four-time UEFA Champions League winner Xavi Hernández appeared beside them. He then revealed that a hidden second seat had been built into the original structure, transforming the isolated spot into a space the pair could share.

The reveal marked the beginning of a much larger surprise. Forest and Xavi were taken from the stands to Heineken’s Skybox, where they watched the Final alongside fellow supporters and figures from the football world.

The experience continued after the final whistle, with Forest heading pitchside as Paris Saint-Germain lifted the UEFA Champions League trophy. A journey that began with the prospect of watching the match alone had become an extraordinary night of behind-the-scenes access, shared celebrations and an encounter with one of the competition’s most recognisable former players.

Xavi said the experience reflected the role football can play in creating connections between people who may otherwise never meet.

“As a player, some of my best memories in football came from sharing big moments with teammates and fans,” he said.

“The Champions League Final is the biggest stage in club football, and you never know who the game might bring you together with along the way. It was special to help turn Forest’s seat into an experience they will never forget.”

The activation forms part of Heineken’s Cheers to All Fans platform, which focuses on the social connections created through sport and live events.

Rather than viewing the stadium’s isolated seat as a disadvantage, the campaign used it to demonstrate how quickly a shared interest can bridge the distance between strangers. Heineken has also announced plans to upgrade additional solo seats across UEFA Champions League stadiums next season.

For Forest, the idea was brought to life in a matter of minutes. One isolated seat, an unexpected appearance from a football legend and a hidden second chair transformed an ordinary place in the stands into a Champions League Final experience few fans will ever forget.
