Give Dad the gift of good health this Father’s Day

  • Written by: The Times

According to Glenn Cross, chairman of EZZ Life Science, while Father’s Day usually triggers a frenzy of retail shopping among families desperate to buy gifts for dad to spoil him on his special day, there are many other things that families can do to give dad the gift of good health instead of more pairs of bog standard socks, jocks, handkerchiefs and power tools.

“Why not park the usual retail purchases and instead look for ways to give your dad gifts that will improve his health and help him live a longer, healthier and happier life,” Cross said.

EZZ Life Science (ASX:EZZ) is a highly respected and trusted listed Australian wellness brand that produces a range of products including supplements, functional foods and hair care products.  Its products are sold across Australia and overseas, stocked in leading retail outlets as well as online.

Cross has outlined six ways to give your dad a more thoughtful, happier and healthier Father’s Day.

Get out into nature for Father’s Day

“Mental health is a big issue for everyone particularly since the pandemic. COVID has certainly helped to shine more of a light on the impacts of isolation and work stress. Instead of taking dad to a café or busy venue for breakfast, pack a picnic bag and get out into nature for Father’s Day,” Cross said.

“Leave the stress and pressures of life behind and enjoy a day out at a local park or bushwalking site. Take a picnic bag and a blanket with you, along with a few games and have fun and enjoy each other’s company.  Not only will he love the escape, but he will also have fun too.”

Give him a gift of fitness

“Keeping active is good for the mind and the body. Regular physical activity can ward off a host of issues, including cardiovascular disease, weight gain and chronic respiratory disease,” Cross said.

“Purchase dad a few vouchers for a yoga class, martial arts, or nearby gym. Tennis and golf club lessons or membership is also a great way to unwind and exercise at the same time.”

Book him in for a health check

“While this may sound like an odd gift to give dad on Father’s Day, it is actually one of the most important gifts you could ever give him. Getting him along to the GP for a preventative check-up could save his life,” Cross emphasised.

“Regular checkups help in the early detection of many lifestyle diseases including high blood pressure, diabetes as well as cancer. Research shows Australian men are more likely to get sick from serious health problems than women, often due to a lack of early detection and intervention.”

Monthly fruit subscription

“We all know that eating a balanced diet full of fruit and vegetables is essential for our health and wellbeing,” Cross said.

“Unfortunately, when we are busy, we tend to opt for convenience rather than healthy options. Monthly fruit basket subscriptions are an excellent way to ensure dad eats fruit regularly.”

Organise a get-together with his friends

“Just because dad is busy doesn’t mean he wouldn’t appreciate a get-together with his mates. Why not treat him to a catch-up with his friends,” Cross added.

“Failure to connect and meaningfully engage with friends and family is a key contributor to poor mental health and can be very problematic for older men who are retired.

“Mates provide an important support network.  So why not arrange a reunion with some of his old friends or sign him up to a nearby men’s shed where he can share ideas and skills such as woodwork and metalwork and make new friends.”

Boost his overall health

“Research shows that a greater proportion of women than men are buying vitamins, minerals and supplements. The reality is that men need supplements also,” Cross explained.

“Why not purchase dad supplements that will boost his overall health. There are some products on the market that are specially designed for men including EZZ Male Boost Stay Energizer.

“This supplement is specifically formulated to support men's energy levels and keep fatigue at bay. It’s formulated with tribulus and ginseng, which are traditionally used in herbal medicine to support physical endurance. Packed with antioxidants, it contains many vitamins that also support overall wellbeing, healthy blood sugar levels and carbohydrate metabolism.”
