CBA transforms its ecommerce offering with BigCommerce partnership

  • Written by CBA

Commonwealth Bank today announced a new partnership with leading ecommerce platform BigCommerce to make it easier for businesses of all sizes to launch and grow their online stores.

BigCommerce, one of the world’s largest software-as-a-service (SaaS) ecommerce platforms helps businesses to build their online store, market to customers, and drive sales through various channels such as Instagram, Facebook and eBay.

Research* shows Australian online sales in January 2021 were almost two thirds (63 per cent) higher than in January 2020. This result is broadly consistent with levels seen throughout 2020, with online sales elevated since the start of the pandemic.

CBA’s Executive General Manager for Everyday Business Banking, James Fowle, said: “We’re incredibly excited about what our partnership with BigCommerce means for our merchant customers. We’ve seen a rapid shift online, particularly in the past year, and this partnership will help our business customers more easily establish and expand their online business.

“We know most business owners who are considering an online store think about building their website first and how they will take payments last. It’s important that we provide the best possible value to our customers and it’s through partnerships such as this that we can help our business customers achieve their goals. The partnership means we can support customers from the first design decision all the way to the first sale.”

The partnership will provide the bank’s business customers with an integrated offering that allows them to establish and grow their online presence and ensure a best in class online shopping experience for their customers. From building a shop-able website, to proving the payment solutions, to marketing campaigns and social media support.

It will also help merchants get paid faster – with Same Day Settlement (when settling with CBA) – and will streamline the sign-up process via a dedicated BigCommerce CBA phone line.

Ecommerce SaaS technology continues to fundamentally change how businesses, banks, and card networks work together by connecting buyers and sellers in new ways, adding payments functionality and creating new purchase experiences.

BigCommerce’s Vice President and General Manager for APAC, Shannon Ingrey, said: “More than ever before, merchants need to get their products in front of shoppers in the places they are making purchases, and that is increasingly online. Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for our customers to have a broad omni-channel presence, and partnering with Australia's leading bank provides greater opportunity for us to further support businesses in their efforts to strategically build, innovate and grow their online business."

Customers who sign up on the BigCommerce/CommBank landing page may be eligible to trial BigCommerce for the first 15 days at no cost, and if they sign up during the trial period they can get their first 3 months free[1].
