Why Choosing the Right Activewear Matters

  • Written by Lilly Miller

Exercising is a great way to get in shape, but also maintain good physical health and manage stress. While deciding to step into a gym or opting for some other form of working out is the essential first step, choosing the right activewear is a close second. You may think that what you wear while working out doesn’t play a huge role, and that your old clothing can do the trick. However, what you wear while exercising is actually highly important for a variety of reasons. Read on to find out what these reasons are.

Right activewear is made of special fabrics

Sweating is an unavoidable part of working out, as that is how the body maintains an optimal temperature. Given the sole reason that activewear was made for working out, generally, it is made of lightweight, breathable fabrics. Wearing clothes made of such fabrics is going to result in less sweating. In addition to that, you don’t want absorptive fabrics, which absorb sweat and stay damp. It’s best to opt for moisture-wicking materials. These are materials that make sweat evaporate quite fast. Therefore, if you choose the right sportswear, it’s going to be lightweight, moisture-wicking, and breathable.

It’s comfy

Since the fabrics of the right activewear are breathable and sweat-absorbing, it’s bound to make you feel more comfortable than regular clothing. What is more, clothing designed specifically for fitness offers more support. Sports bras are particularly significant in this case, as regular ones can restrict your movement and thus affect your performance. In other words, comfy clothing that isn’t too tight or loose can make you feel better while exercising and allows for a wider range of movement, resulting in greater achievements.

It can increase your confidence

Wearing clothes that don’t fit you well can make you feel self-conscious while working out, especially if you’re going to a gym full of other people. In order to increase your confidence and motivation, pay special attention when picking out activewear. Feeling confident while working out is surely going to boost your performance. That’s why choosing a fancy design that flatters your body shape is crucial. If you’re a woman, you may take your pick from a wide range of fashionable tights that come in different designs, colours, and sizes. There is also a great deal of options for sports bras that you can match with your tights. Men can choose from a variety of stylish and comfy joggers and tops.

It can help avoid injuries

The risk of getting injured is higher when you’re partaking in a more intense physical activity, such as going to the gym or doing HIIT workouts. Wearing appropriate sportswear can prevent injury. For example, leggings, running shorts, or gym shorts can help you avoid muscle fatigue, because that way your muscles are well supported. Since muscle fatigue is one of the leading causes of injury, making sure that you always wear adequate clothing is going to minimize your chances of getting hurt.

It doesn’t irritate your skin

The fabrics of certain sportswear can cause skin irritation. In order to avoid uncomfortable itching or rashes, you need to be mindful about what fabrics the clothing is made of. In theory, virtually any fabric can irritate your skin, but the most common culprits include:

  • polyester,

  • nylon,

  • spandex.

If you have sensitive skin, going for natural fibers such as wool can be the perfect option. Not only is wool a natural material that is less likely to cause any skin problems, but it’s also moisture-wicking. Even if you opt for some of the above-mentioned “usual suspects”, you may find that picking out items that aren’t too tight is enough to avoid skin irritation.

It can last you a long time

Although top-quality sportswear usually costs more than that made of cheap fabrics, the perk of investing in quality activewear is that it can last for a long time. For that reason, it’s advisable that you make sure that you buy the pieces that you see yourself wearing in the future. Keep in mind that you don’t have to overspend and purchase luxury items, just pay attention to the fabrics the items are made of. You are likely to find affordable options of good quality.

On a final note

As you’ve seen, picking out what to wear during your workouts is a little less simple than you might have thought. It’s important to make sure that your activewear of choice is made of the right fabrics, fits your body shape, and feels comfortable. That is bound to make you feel confident, motivated, comfortable, and help you avoid injury and skin irritation.
