Tips for managing emotions during the pandemic and as we come out of lockdown

  • Written by: Maggie Lichaa, Executive Coach

As part of Mental Health Awareness Month, leading corporate health provider Arriba Group is providing free ‘lunch and learn’ mental health webinars with a variety of mental health experts for employers, employees and job seekers.

“Riding the ‘Corona-Coaster’ has certainly tested us all over the last two years. Be it in moments of thriving or just surviving, the silver lining is clear – an increased awareness and focus on the importance of managing your mental and emotional health.” says Maggie Lichaa, Executive Coach who works with some of Australia’s leading organisations.

“I think it’s safe to say that the last two years has given us all an opportunity to look inwards and really tune to what our emotions can reveal to us during stressful times. With continued disruption turning our routines upside down and blurring boundaries between how we live, work, and socialise; it’s not surprising that many are feeling overwhelmed and fatigued. But just like we train the muscles of our body, there are proven ways to train the muscles of our mind.” continued Ms Lichaa.

“As we prepare for lockdown to end, there are also many people experiencing mixed emotions about the social pressures that may create.” said Ms Lichaa.

Ms Lichaa will discuss some of these concepts as part of a free mental health webinar series during Mental Health Month in October. The series is presented by Arriba Group, a group of companies that are reshaping the future of thousands of Australians through return to work, disability employment and NDIS allied health services. Aimed at jobseekers and employers, the various webinars will provide useful insights and strategies to empower people to nurture their mental health.

Ms Lichaa says she will provide practical tips on building our mental muscles in order to tune into our mental and emotional health.

“One thing many people have been confronted with this year is a loss of control. While we can’t control external factors, we can certainly control our perceptions, thoughts, beliefs, and actions. There are many simple and effective things we can do to influence how we perceive things and control how we react – that all starts with tuning into our mental and emotional health. I am excited to share these practical tips and empower people to improve their wellbeing, change that negative self-talk and unlock beliefs that are keeping them stuck. It will be a great session on recognising silver linings.”

Other mental health experts will cover important topics such as:

  • Mental health and work: The big picture of mental health and work and how they interlink.
  • Bouncing back and falling forward: the impact stress and uncertainty can have on us feeling overwhelmed and performing at our best. Practical daily disciplines and strategies to keep you focused and cultivate a positive/growth mindset.
  • Exercising our mental muscles. What does this actually mean? Why didn’t we have this as a subject at school like PE? Simple strategies that are proven to assist us all become mentally fitter.
Arriba Group works with some of Australia’s largest organisations, including insurers and government departments and agencies. The webinars will be offered through two of their companies, Rehab Management and AimBig Employment. Rehab Management provides return-to-work services, injury management and safety and wellbeing solutions to private and public sector clients. AimBig Employment is Australia’s leading disability employment provider, placing people with disability into suitable, meaningful, sustainable employment, while also supporting businesses recruit a diverse workforce.

Renee Thornton, General Manager of Rehab Management, says “Our large employers are feeding back to us around their desire to support their workers during this period. We are delighted to bring experts together provide these free webinars to help employers to support their staff.”

The webinars are open for anyone to attend. Each one runs for a total of 60 minutes, consisting of a 45-minute presentation and then 15 minutes for questions afterwards. To register, participants can go to www.arribagroup.com.au (scroll down to the news section).
