Two Sydney disrupters in the sharing-economy combine forces

  • Written by Media Release

SHARING ECONOMY DISRUPTORS JOIN FORCES AS POPCAR AND HMLET ANNOUNCE PARTNERSHIP IN SYDNEY

Popcar, the car sharing service committed to providing a more sustainable way for Australians to move around, has announced a partnership with Australia’s largest co-living company Hmlet.

Through this exciting pilot program, Popcar will be placing a vehicle at Hmlet’s property in the inner- west Sydney suburb of Marrickville, providing an affordable, hassle-free and sustainable transportation alternative for Hmlet members.

As disruptors in their own respective industries, both companies have ambitions for a long-term partnership with the potential for a national roll-out. The collaboration adds a new dimension to both Popcar’s and Hmlet’s offerings, creating new opportunities for their business growth and market expansion.

Anthony Welsh, Director of Popcar says: “We are thrilled to be partnering with Hmlet as we are both aligned in our approach of wanting to provide a flexible, community-led experience while maximising value for our customers. In a world where the sharing economy is thriving, we see this partnership between sustainable living and transport as a natural fit.”

He added, “We know that the sharing economy is a buzz word, but the reality is that Sydney is becoming more and more congested and we need to start looking at alternatives to traditional home and car ownership. This partnership allows people to naturally engage with our service and see how easy, efficient and economical a car sharing service can be. We hope our members will benefit from the ease and enjoyment of the diverse offering and fun that car sharing provides.”

“We see this kind of community-driven and cost-effective access to accommodation and transportation as the future of the sharing economy. We endeavour to offer people an affordable alternative to car ownership so that they don’t have to deal with the hassle of maintenance and upkeep of a car,” said Welsh.

“Trends within the sharing economy have been challenging the traditional notions of ownership. Community driven ownership is gaining popularity and allowing convenience while targeting sustainability and providing a cost-effective alternative.”

“Transport and accommodation are among the top sourced services through the sharing economy and the combination of these two forces will only be the beginning of many accommodation and transport affiliations.”

The founders of both of these companies see this as the future of the sharing economy, where people will benefit from community living, creating a more sustainable and connective lifestyle.

Chrystan Paul, Managing Director of Hmlet Australia commented on the sharing economy and partnership: "Our goal is to provide a modern, hassle-free and community-oriented way of living and this unique partnership further enhances our quality offering by addressing the commuting requirements of our members. We think it will become a real alternative to the traditional rental model and the way people view traditional ownership, with easy access to a wide variety of vehicles to suit their changing needs."

Popcar X Hmlet: Located on 380 Illawarra Road, Hmlet Marrickville offers 1 Volkswagen Polo. to the Popcar service will be available from the beginning of November 2019.
