Beatbot - The ultimate pool cleaning solution

  • Written by: Callum Sharp

Pool maintenance is somewhere near the bottom of my priority list…until all of a sudden, spring arrives and the endless peppering from kids that want a non-stop pool-fest becomes part of the every day. It’s great fun when the pool is clean, clear of debris and with crystal-like water. Of course though, that takes effort. So, when the chance to get my hands on a tool that automates most of the work, I was reaching out with two hands.

The Beatbot AquaSense Pro is a 5-in-1 smart pool cleaning solution that can do it all – floors, walls, surface, clarification and waterline…every part of the pool that needs a clean, this unit is capable of getting there.

Out of the packaging, there was barely any assembly required. Simply slide the legs onto the charging dock and pop the unit on to charge wirelessly before first use. I used the initial charge time to read the manuals, and download the Beatbot App.

When connected to the home Wi-Fi, the app can display updates, data pertaining to the cleaning records, system updates and device settings. In here you’ll also find their main cleaning settings:

  • * Quick mode (floor only)

  • * Standard mode (floor, walls and waterline)

  • * Pro mode (floor, walls, waterline and surface skim)

  • * Eco mode (floor only but no need to remove the robot from the pool – it automatically cleans the floor every other day)

Upon completion of charging, I was excited to see how it performed. I knew I was putting it in a pool that was relatively clean looking and that had our traditional ‘creepy crawly’ in play for the last couple of hours, but I was curious to see if it could better its aged competitor.

I placed the robot on flat level ground for a few seconds (helps it to calibrate) after selecting the cleaning mode (pro) and placed it into the water. After just a few seconds the 9 motors, 20 sensors and 4 brushes kicked in and off it went creating a map of my pool, working out the most efficient way to knock out the task of cleaning up.

I enjoyed watching it bop around for a few minutes as it worked out where all the limits are, where the steps were and generally trundling around of its own accord, filling in it’s internal map of its new home. After a while it got stuck into the cleaning cycle, up and down over the floor section, before excitingly climbing each and every inch of the walls to clean them down – it has up to 9.5 hours continuous runtime. It’s got an impressive 5500 GPH suction to make sure it stays clung to the vertical surface, even when getting above the waterline.

The real party trick was the surface skimming routine. I feel like some days I could spend hours skimming the surface with a net, catching leaves, twigs, pet hair, kids toys and bugs. Watching the AquaSense Pro rise above the waterline like a surfacing submersible and race around my pool taking in water and filtering out the debris was a treat. It looks like the days of my skimming net are numbered.

When finished, the robot returns to the point that it was dropped in for convenient pickup. I was surprised to see how much it collected from a ‘clean’ pool. Inside there are two mesh filters, one slightly finer than the other for the really small particles. Both had a healthy amount of debris in there, not much of which was visible to a casual onlooker. In short, it does a great job of picking things up. I’ve seen it gather up some fairly large leaves from the surface too, so a wide range of debris is going to be collected by the unit. It was easy to clean the baskets by emptying them and spraying out the small debris with a garden hose. Simple clean up for a simple life!

The only human intervention needed is to put it in the pool, take it out of the pool, clean it and charge it. On some settings you can leave it in there for days without any trouble. It can be as automatic as your traditional creepy crawly. The lack of wires is a nice aesthetic touch too.

Above all, the Beatbot AquaSense Pro works. It does a great job in picking up that large and small litter that can end up in your pool with unmatched cleaning performance. It looks fantastic, works very well and has left me with a pool I can be proud of using all summer.
