Limited-edition gin raises funds for the Easter Bilby

A new limited-edition gin from Brisbane craft distillery
BY.ARTISANS is helping support the conservation of one of Australia’s most beloved native animals this Easter.

Created in partnership with Australian Wildlife Conservancy (AWC), the gin, called Burrow & Bloom, will contribute $48 from every bottle sold towards Bilby conservation and habitat protection.

The release also shines a light on the plight of the pink-eared and pointed-snout Greater Bilby, whose population has declined significantly. While the species once ranged across much of the country, it is now estimated that around 10,000 Bilbies remain in the wild. Around 3,300 of those live within predator-free sanctuaries managed by AWC across New South Wales, Western Australia, South Australia and Central Australia.

BY.ARTISANS co-founder Alexander Bell says the gin was designed to reflect the desert landscapes the Bilbies depend on. “We’ve used a foundation of classic gin structure, layered with native desert botanicals like roasted wattleseed, saltbush, desert lime and lemon myrtle, to evoke arid soils, dry air and nocturnal foraging. A gentle rose infusion softens the profile as a subtle nod to Easter, without losing the austerity of the desert.”

“The result is a dry, savoury, distinctly Australian gin that tells a story of place while directly supporting conservation.”

The botanicals were chosen to capture flavours inspired by Australia’s arid and semi-arid regions, the same environments where Bilbies spend their nights digging for food and creating their distinctive spiral burrows.

“Australia faces a significant challenge to restore our native species and landscapes and this challenge requires partnership across the spectrum of business, government, First Nations communities and the conservation sector to build scale and engagement from the public,” said Tim Allard, AWC Chief Executive. “The Bilby is a special Australian species that brings joy to many, particularly during the Easter period. We’re delighted to have the opportunity to celebrate this native species and highlight the value of Australia’s Easter Bilby.”

A maximum of 1,000 bottles of Burrow & Bloom will be produced, with the release expected to generate up to $48,000 in sponsorship support for AWC, and the protection and management of wildlife sanctuaries across Australia.

Pre-orders are available through the BY.ARTISANS website, with deliveries expected after 11 April 2026. More information about AWC’s work with the Bilby can be found here.
